Holter Test

Holter Test

Holter test involves using a portable ECG monitor called the Holter monitor to record the heart's electrical activity over 24 hours or longer while you are at home.

What is the purpose of a holter test?

When you experience symptoms like chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, or weakness sporadically, it can be challenging to detect any changes in your heartbeat with a standard ECG test during a doctor’s office visit. In such cases, using a portable ECG monitor like the Holter monitor is recommended. This device records the heart’s electrical activity over 24 hours or longer while you are at home, increasing the likelihood of capturing any abnormal heartbeats or rhythms causing the symptoms. The Holter monitor works on the same principle as a standard ECG, with electrode patches placed on your chest and connected by wires to a small monitor box (a mobile recording device).
