A carotid duplex is an ultrasound test used to examine blood flow in the carotid arteries located in the neck. These arteries supply blood to the brain, and any blockage or narrowing can increase the risk of stroke. this test helps to examine the speed and direction of blood flow through the blood vessels.
A carotid duplex may be recommended if you have experienced a transient ischemic attack or a stroke, or if there is suspicion of vessel blockage or narrowing. This test may also be advised if abnormal sounds are detected over the carotid neck arteries.
