indicators that should incite you to visit your clinical psychologist

psychological problems are sometimes quite challenging to diagnose. many people relate to their psychological issues as simply “stress”. this calls for a need to educate the public to raise awareness about thresholds of mental health and psychological problems.

some of these red flags include;

  • when there’s a consistent discomfort overtime
  • when you’re emotionally unstable, having difficulties in having a clear thinking process, and having negative thought patterns

all psychological clinics have their areas of specialties. here at dr. reuter clinic, we are focused on dealing with conditions related to;

how a clinical psychologist distinguish himself from other type of help?

the distinction between a psychologist and a life coach.
dr. reuter clinic is a polyclinic which has a clinical psychologist. clinical psychologists can perform the tasks of a life coach and other tasks beyond those of a life coach. the life coach advises and inspires individuals to achieve their professional and/or personal goals. on the other hand, psychologists are knowledgeable individuals trained to diagnose and treat mental disorders. this is a legally reserved and approved activity that equips professionals with the necessary interventions required to restore balance.

the distinction between a psychologist and a psychiatrist.
the psychiatrist will firstly approach the mental disorder as a biological condition. medications will often be prescribed to restore balance. a change in some behavioral habits might also be prescribed. the psychiatrist usually doesn’t practice psychotherapy. but a psychiatrist may very well prescribe a psychotherapy to his patient and invite him to consult a clinical psychologist to address the core of the mental disorder in order to address the causes of the symptoms. a clinical psychologist will use “talk therapy” according to his approach and cannot prescribe medications, but he may very well suggest to some patient to consult a psychiatrist to get a pharmacological support along his work in psychotherapy. psychiatrists and clinical psychologists may work together sometimes to support a patient in order to understand better their common patient.

humanistic european psychotherapy

humanistic european psychotherapy

this approach is meant to promote better self-awareness. the process encourages personal growth by placing higher levels of attention on what the present reality offers someone. by exploring and elaborating on one’s ways to be in relationship with the world it opens doors for developing a new disposition towards life. this helps each person find their own meaning to life.
acceptance and commitment therapy (act)

acceptance and commitment therapy (act)

the emphasis is on accepting the current reality, not denying it, in order to move in a new direction. this approach teaches mindfulness skills to help individuals live and behave in ways consistent with personal values while developing psychological flexibility.
mindfulness

mindfulness

mindfulness is a basic essential ability to be aware. it dives into beginning to fully present, awareness of what we’re doing and where we are, and avoids getting overwhelmed by activities around us. mindfulness aims to awaken the inner workings of the physical, mental, and emotional processes. mindfulness is readily available through body scans, mindful moment practices, and meditation.
cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt)

cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt)

this approach explores the relationships among an individual’s behaviors, feelings, and thoughts. a therapist in cbt sessions works with a patient to detect unhealthy thought patterns that might cause self-destructive beliefs and behaviors. they then work together to develop constructive thinking behaviors for healthy beliefs and behaviors.
