About Kipa Shrestha
Designation: Educational Psychologist
Department: Psychology
Kipa Shrestha is an Educational Psychologist who supports children, adolescents, young adults, and adults with learning, emotional, and developmental challenges. She also works closely with parents when guidance and clarity are needed.
Many patients come to Kipa seeking clarity on school progress, attention difficulties, anxiety, behavioural changes, or whether a psychological assessment may be helpful. She offers a calm, structured approach that helps individuals and families feel supported and more confident about next steps.
Kipa provides comprehensive psychological services, including clinical interviews, detailed psychological evaluations, and the interpretation of findings in clear written reports. She also conducts feedback sessions with parents, guardians, and school personnel, and offers practical recommendations that can be applied at home, in therapy, and in educational settings.
Her assessments may include cognitive and academic achievement testing, verbal and nonverbal measures, behavioural assessments, and career or personality testing when appropriate. She has extensive experience with the full Wechsler suite (WISC, WPPSI, WAIS, WIAT, WNV).
Kipa is also an ADOS-2 licensed practitioner, with significant experience in autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and specific learning disorders. When helpful, she collaborates with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the right support is in place.
In therapy, Kipa supports a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, eating-related challenges, substance use, personality-related concerns, and suicidal thoughts. She provides individual therapy, couples counselling, family support, and trauma-informed care with sensitivity and clarity.
Her therapeutic work draws from well-established approaches such as:
* CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
* DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy)
* BWRT (Brain Working Recursive Therapy)
She offers care in English, Afrikaans, and South African Sign Language.
Alongside her clinical work, Kipa is completing her PhD research in neuropsychology and intellectual disability. Patients value her grounded presence and the way she helps complex concerns feel clearer, more manageable, and less overwhelming.
